Dundee City West MSP Joe FitzPatrick is to discuss the issue of illegal travellers’ encampments with senior Council Leaders.
A group of travellers who set up camp at Riverside Drive is now illegally camped on public open space at the rear of the Lynch Centre on South Road.
The MSP who went to see the site today said: “I will be arranging a meeting with Council leaders to see if we can find a way forward.
“Illegal encampments within the city are most frustrating for the Council, residents and the police. We seem to be powerless to prevent this recurring problem. The existing legislation, like all legal mechanisms takes time to be implemented and in the meantime, the group move to another site and the procedure starts all over again.
“I am sure that part of the solution will be to find out why certain groups of the traveller community do not seem find the Council’s official site to be suitable.”
