SNP Team Take Over At Dundee Council

The SNP team have formally taken over at Dundee City Council as their nominees for Lord Provost and Council Convenors were formally approved at the Statutory meeting of the Council.

Among the first items of business was the swearing-in of Lord Provost Bob Duncan and his deputy Christina Roberts (see picture).

Although the SNP had led the Council since March 2009, they had previously relied on the support of Independent Lord Provost John Letford. However, the elections this month gave the SNP an additional three members over the result in 2007, bringing their total to 16 of the 29 member authority; an overall majority. The SNP were the only party in Dundee to increase their number of Councillors.

Members of the public turned out to see this historic event and both the city’s MSPs Shona Robison and Joe FitzPatrick were present along with former Councillors Andy Dawson, Liz Fordyce and former group leader John Corrigan.
